Our Story

Our Story

Lillian's Floral Studio is a boutique flower shop and creative studio born out of both love and loss. In early 2020, after 10 years of living overseas, our owner Rachel and her husband, Allen moved back to her hometown of Nashville, thrilled to discover they were pregnant with their first child. Sadly, Lillian Grace Penn was born premature at 21 weeks and gained her angel wings a few hours after her birth. During the dark weeks that followed, Rachel found solace and healing by creating again, drawing from her years of floral and events experience to arrange flowers every week for her daughter.

Empowered by the need to honor her daughter's life, an ethos for beautiful, sustainable blooms and a love of bringing exceptionally designed events to life, Rachel launched Lillian’s Floral Studio to provide our community with the perfect flowers for life’s most important moments. Every year, a percentage of our shop's proceeds are donated to local and national non-profit organizations dedicated to providing emotional, mental and financial support to those parents who experience infant loss at any stage. This shop is our place to create beauty and give back so that Lillian's short life will always mean more than her parents' loss.

Our Approach

Our Approach

Not all flowers are created equal. We pledge to utilize locally-grown flowers whenever possible. During the annual growing season from April thru October, we source as much as we can from local flower farmers across the middle Tennessee area. Not only do we strive to support our local community, but we are proud to work with farmers and growers who farm sustainably and pay a living wage. A vast majority of commercially grown flowers are sold as cheaply as possible to grocers or florists at the expense of our environment or flower farm employees.

During the non-growing season, we have few alternatives and do source our floral product from other US, European or South American farms though we will always be transparent as to where your flowers are coming from. When your flowers have to fly to get to us, a percentage of what you pay us is used to purchase carbon offset credits which take into account the environmental costs of air travel. That is why we price the way we do - so you know the flowers you are buying were sourced, processed and designed both ethically and sustainably.

Striving for Sustainability

Striving for Sustainability

Floral design can be sustainable. We pledge to use sustainable design practices wherever possible. Instead of single use plastics or harmful materials such as floral foam, we are committed to leveraging chicken wire, floral frogs and other living mechanics as much as possible in our designs. We've also invested in eco-friendly, biodegradable and compostable materials like NatureFlex and Eco-Wraps for our gift wrapping and packaging.

A majority of our floral products are eligible for our recycling program where we provide you the opportunity to receive a small credit towards your next arrangement with the return of a vase or bowl you previously received. Our shop also participates in a local, weekly compost program that turns our floral waste into finished compost that is then donated back to our community. We pledge to continue learning about and identifying new sustainability practices to be better stewards of our environment.
